Kyria

Kyria was the last Six Metre designed by Charles E. Nicholson and was built by Camper & Nicholsons in Gosport in 1947 (5th month). Her first owner was Air Commodore John Charles (Paddy) Quinnell.

She took part in the Six Metre class trials for the 1948 London Olympics, but was not selected. The Six Metres that took part and the order they placed at the trials were: Johan, Circe, Thistle, Juno, Marletta, Kyria, Caprice, Saskia II, Noa and Golden Hind.

During the period 1953 to the early 1970’s, Kyria was based in North Wales, both in the Menai Strait and latterly in the Porthmadog/Abersoch area.

From the early 1970’s to the present Kyria has been based in Caernarfon in North Wales (from 1986 onwards she has been laid up on the shore in the harbour).

Kyria is currently (2020) undergoing a full restoration and it is hoped that she will be ready to be re-launched during the summer of 2021.
