50 Years of ISMA

In June 2020 the International Six Metre Association celebrates its 50th anniversary.

This Six Metre story explores the history of the class’s governing body, the International Six Metre Association on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Our archivist has used the archive collections and has been talking to some class stalwarts to bring the story together.

There is always more to learn, and we would love to hear from anyone who was active – or perhaps had friends or relatives who were active – in the Six Metre class in the early modern period, from 1965 onwards.

“The dreaded virus that stalks the world has disrupted our sailing season; and it is sad that we are not able to renew our friendships and celebrate our 50th anniversary together in Sanxenxo this summer. But I have no doubt that we will meet again with renewed vigour in 2021, and that ISMA will continue to go from strength to strength.

We are delighted, however, to be able to mark the occasion using our archive website, the purpose of which is to celebrate and share the history of the International Six Metres. I hope you enjoy reading our new Six Metre Story, which explores the origins of the International Six Metre Association.”
