May Be XIV
The first May Be was built in 1927, designed by Gustav Estlander for Sven Salén. May Be XIV is the last of the family of May Be’s, sixty years after the first. All of the May Be’s were built in Sweden, but by various designers.
May Be XIV was designed by Pelle Petterson in 1987 for co-owners Patric Fredel and Christer Salén, Sven Salén’s son, and is a committed race boat, appearing in a great many of the international regattas since the 1980s. She placed within the top 5 of the Open Division in four European Championships: 5th in 1990 in Porto Rotondo, Italy; 3rd in 1998 in Cowes, UK; 2nd in 2004 again in Porto Rotondo, Italy; and 2nd in 2012 in Nynäshamn, Sweden.
Fredel and Salén owned the boat from launch through to 2018 when she was sold to new owners in Spain, where she sails today.
May Be XIV competed at the World Championships 2023, Open Division, in Cowes, UK.
