Frequently Asked Questions

I have some things in my shed, but I’m not sure they are relevant. Do you want them?

The collection consists of a huge variety of material. There are a lot of photographs, but also plans, certificates, regatta programmes and results and other ephemera. We love to be surprised by what people have so if in doubt get in touch. If we don’t know you have something we won’t know if it fits the collection. A good rule of thumb is the older the better.

I’m not very good with computers. How can I get my records to you?

We have put together a set of digitisation guidelines to help you scan or photograph your papers. If you don’t have access to a scanner or don’t have a friend who can help you get in touch and we can see if we can help you out.

I have loads of old photographs and I don’t have time to scan them all.

What a lovely position to be in! We expect the site to develop over years, so don’t feel you have to send us everything at once. Can you just send us your favourites? Or the ones that are easiest to get to? Perhaps you could start with records relating to one event or year?

I am a professional photographer. How can you protect my images so people can’t re-use them?

We are acutely aware that some of the best photographs belong to professional photographers and that you need to protect your rights. Every item published on the website will have been rights checked and a copyright agreement will be signed, where relevant. Contributors are invited to assign a Creative Commons licence to their work which gives clear information to users on their rights to reuse the image. If you have particular concerns, just let us know. For more information on copyright please see our statement.
