The Boats that Sailed a Century Ago

A centenary celebration of the British American Cup

2021 is the centenary year of the British American Cup, the first major trophy for international team racing. The competition was hugely popular and was a further boost for the increasingly successful International Six Metre Class.

The eight entrants in 1921 – Flya, Jean, Polly and Victoria representing Britain and Jeanie, Grebe, Montauk and Sheila representing America – were launched in the same year. The competition itself has been documented elsewhere, but the group of eight boats has never been looked at in detail. This Six Metre Story explores the story of each individual boat, their designers and life after the 1921 British American Cup.

The results of each British American Cup race from 1921 to 1955 can also be found on the archive website. Please see our Race Results section.
