Five Six Metres racing circa 1926-7

Archive Item Type:

Black and white photograph of five Six Metres sailing upwind. At the time, three of these Sixes were Dutch-owned (H2, H7, and H4) and the other two were Belgian-owned (B6 and B3).

Four of these yachts were built in the Netherlands by G. de Vries Lentsch: Kemphaan (H2) is one of four boats to have carried that name between 1925 and 1930; De Ruyter (H7) was built in 1925; Navaho II (B6) was built in 1926; and Golliwog (H4) was built in 1923. Lastly, Ciss (B3) was built in 1924 by Abeking & Rassmussen in Germany from a William Fife design.

Please note: Golliwog was the original name given to a Six Metre included in this photograph. However, the International Six Metre Archive acknowledges that today this is an offensive term, which may be upsetting to encounter on the website. We have published the name to preserve the historical accuracy of the records, but, in doing so, are not endorsing the use of this language.
