Lalage crew, Burnham Week, 1936

The original caption reads: “Lalage. L to R. Russell Harmer, Peter Scott, Stewart Morris & Laurent Giles” Burnham [Week], 1936.

Her crew were all very successful sailors: Russell Harmer had recently won a gold medal in Lalage at the 1936 Berlin Olympics; Peter Scott had won a bronze Olympic medal in the Olympic Monotypes; Stewart Morris was a reserve for the Olympic sailing team (and later went on to win the 1948 Olympic gold in the Swallow class) and Laurent Giles was a celebrated naval architect.

Photograph by Christopher Boardman. The image was included in an album containing photographs dating from 1936 and 1937.
