The start of a Six – part 4

Ring frames and floors
In January 2022 work started on a brand new Six Metre at Red Sky Yachts in Kotka, Finland. The new boat, named “Oiva”, has been designed by Allan Savolainen, with the project being overseen by Chris Winter. She is being built for Six Metre sailor Henrik Andersin. It is hoped she will be ready to compete at the European Championships in Cascais in September 2022.
This is our fourth update on the progress of the build. Progress has slowed a little over the last two months due to the yard preparting clients’ boats for the coming season. The team also competed at the Six Metre World Championships in Spain in Henrik’s Evelina.
Progress has been made, however, and over the last couple of month Red Sky have been working on structural components, as well as some of the more visible parts of the boat. All the floors and ring frames have been installed and knees and floorboards are ready for installation.
Away from the hull, the mast has also now been assembled. Under the waterline, the keel is being faired and they are preparing to attach the wings to the trim tab.
The new wardrobe of sails has been delivered from North Sails in eager anticipation of her first trip onto the water.
