Caresse
Caresse was commissioned by the yacht club ASS. She was designed by Zake Westin and built at Åbo Båtvarv in 1922. She was the first yacht built in Finland to the International Second rule and the sixth Finnish Six Metre. She sailed under the number FIN2.
A Jarl Cederqvist won Caresse in the raffle. He sold her to Sigurd Blomqvist who raced her successfully the first season in 1923.
Caresse was sold to Sweden after WWII, after having had several owners .
The grandson of Blomqvist managed to track her down in 1998 and found her in a dreadful condition, beyond restoration. She was transported to Lovisa, Finland , to be rebuilt by M-yachts.
The original drawings could never be found despite thorough investigations. A naval architect measured the hull by laser and thus produced new drawings. The old hull was then cut to bits in order to get access to the iron frames of which a number could be restored and used for the new hull, The hull was built using the same materials and techniques as the original one of 1922 – lead keel, mahogany planking on steel and oak frames, Oregon pine decks and silver spruce mast. Caresse is also equipped with bronze winches from Meissner.
Caresse was launched again in 2001 and sold to Germany later to be mainly sailed at Lake Constance.
