Flapper

Flapper was designed by Christian Jensen (formerly of Anker & Jensen) and built by his yard Soon Slip og Baat A/S in 1939. She was his last Six Metre.

Sold to Denmark after the Second World War, she was selected as the Olympic alternate boat for Denmark for the 1948 Olympics at Torbay. Owned by Poul Ohff she was for some time based at Horsens in Denmark. It is not at present known when she was sold to the US, but at some stage she reached Maine, where in 2002 she was at Cannell, Paine & Page, in Camden, Maine.

From there she went to Brion Rieff’s yard in Brooklin, Maine where she underwent a full restoration to original racing condition for owner Nick Booth, under the guidance of Jacob Vargish of Pedrick Yacht Design. She first appeared on the international scene for the European Classic Championships at La Trinité sur Mer, France, in 2008. Helmed by Jacob Vargish, she finished 17th out of 22. At the 2011 Europeans at Nylandaka Kaktklubben in Sweden, she rose to 8th with Lars Gluck at the helm. This was followed by second place in The Classic Worlds at Flensburg, Germany, in 2013. At the British Open Classic Championship at Falmouth in 2014 she finished 2nd, which gave great hope for the subsequent Europeans, which unfortunately were not completed due to lack of wind.

Flapper went on to finish in 5th place in the Classic Division of both the 2015 and 2017 World Championships and also finished in 4th place in the 2016 European Championship in Brunnen, Switzerland.
