Wiking

Aida, originally named Wiking, made her racing debut at the 1936 Olympics representing Argentina under the sail number A11, sailed by Julio Sieburger. She narrowly missed out on a podium position, coming in fourth place. Her sister ship, Lully, came in second place sailing for Norway.

Following the Kiel Olympics, the boat belonged to Halvor Musted and was kept in Oslo where she was renamed Rani II. Musted sailed her here with the large Norwegian fleet, regularly competing in local regattas.

From this point onwards she went on to change hands in quick succession, changing owners every three or four years. In 1945 she was given the name Aida by her owner Knut Berg – the name she carries today.

Then in 1948 Aida moved to a new home in Denmark, having been sold to artist C F Höyrup. Renamed Morena, she then entered her second Olympic sailing competition, this time achieving 10th place for the Danish team.

Over the next five decades she continued to change hands – and names – numerous times until she finally ended up in the hands of Katrin and Björn Storsberg in Copenhagen in 2000. The Storsbergs restored the boat to a good competitive condition following her busy life, moved her to northern Germany and renamed her Aida. There she competed against a group of classic Sixes on a regular basis as well as racing in international competitions. Aida came in 2nd place in two European Championships: 2006 in Flensburg, Germany; and 2021 in Sanxeno, Spain.

In 2016 she made the move to northern Spain to join the new and growing Galician fleet.

Still a fast boat, she came 3rd overall in the 2019 regatta season and at the World Championships 2022 in Sanxenxo, Spain, Aida (ESP59) finished in 3rd place in the Classic Division.
